Mohagen Hansen Architecture | Interiors has been working with Willmar Medical Services (WMS), a joint venture of Affiliated Community Medical Centers (ACMC) and Rice Memorial Hospital, to create a new replacement, stand-alone 29,000 square foot Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). The new facility will provide the opportunity to satisfy the current surgery volumes, as well as accommodate future growth over the next 10 – 15 years. The new ASC will have space for five operating rooms, two endoscopy suites, one procedure room and the necessary ancillary functions including waiting rooms, care delivery stations, decontamination and central processing, and other staff support spaces.
Mohagen Hansen is working with the WMS Leadership Team and staff to create a functional and efficient work environment, while designing a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere for patients and their families. Design of the outpatient facility includes large, comfortable support areas for families and visitors, which is an obvious departure from the institutional feeling experienced in the current ASC setting.
One of the unique challenges of this project is the economic aspect of using financial resources wisely while providing results that will support future growth to better serve the community as a whole. Mohagen Hansen is committed to working with ACMC and Rice Memorial Hospital to assist them in the planning and design for future expansion as well. Working closely with user groups has allowed the design team to gain a clear understanding of how best to design the facility for today, while planning for inevitable future growth. The result will be a new Ambulatory Surgery Center that operates efficiently while offering a calming, safe and supportive environment.
